Diane Jenkins's Cancer Survivor/Avon 3 Day Walk-My Maiden Voyage
Diane Jenkins' Avon Breast Cancer 3-Day-LA Walker#3412

I have always considered myself a lucky person and still do. A short 3 years ago, I was diagnosed with breast cancer (I know that not everyone would view that as lucky) but I know that I was extremely lucky. Because I was fortunate enough to have access to healthcare and medical screening my breast cancer was caught early.

However, there are thousands of women (men too, breast cancer has no gender bias)who are not as fortunate. Over 1,000,000 women in America are living with undetected breast cancer; every 3 minutes a new case of breast cancer is being diagnosed; every 13 minutes the disease will claim another life.

So I have shined up my Gym Card (they have only known me in the past by my monthly checking account deductions) strapped on my walking shoes and started training to walk in the Avon Breast Cancer 3 DAY Walk - Los Angeles. On October 18 - 20, 2002, I will proudly walk 60 miles from Santa Barbara to Malibu with 3000+ individuals for the fight against breast cancer.

But I need your help! Please find it in your heart to give generously to help fund cutting edge breast cancer research and provide funding of medical clinics designed for the treatment and early detection of breast cancer (for details, visit www.avoncrusade.com).

This is my maiden walk in the 60 mile Avon 3 Day and this year I am walking for my 3 daughters, Alisha, Corinna & Sara (picture above right), my Uncle Lee (breast cancer survivor since 1998)and in loving memory of my grandmother, Sadie (died 1974 from breast cancer). May our daughters and love ones never face the plague of breast cancer.
